Individual 30
minute session
An individual 30 minute music therapy session includes singing along to familiar songs, reminiscing with my client and their loved ones about memories that are brought up, playing along with various handheld instruments, exploring emotional regulation and expression, and more. We end with calming techniques to leave the client grounded and ready to experience the rest of their day with an improved quality of life. We can achieve goals such as increased socialization, improved mood, and decreased anxiety.
We get moving by playing instruments, clapping along to the songs or tapping feet along with the music. We might try some expressive song writing or relaxation to calming music. Each individual is assessed and works toward non-music goals in each session.
Individual 50
minute session
A 50 minute music therapy session will include everything in a 30 minute session. With the extra time, I will lead my client in some movement to music. We might do gentle, seated movements incorporating the entire body to get blood flowing to further elevate mood and cognitive functioning. We may also do a guided relaxation exercise, then end the session with some calming, familiar songs. Each session is tailored to the individual based on their initial assessment.
Group 50
minute session
Group Music Therapy sessions are so much fun! During our time together we will sing along to familiar music, and there is usually a theme with each session. I incorporate trivia and visual props and pictures to really engage the group in socialization. A portion of the session is dedicated to seated movement to music. We play instruments together as well. We always end each session with a goodbye song and lots of smiles! I also provide group sessions to church groups and businesses for stress management as well as working with the Exceptional Foundation's after school program.
